Sweet Briar College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of physical chemistry beginning August 2008. This is a two-year appointment with the possibility of conversion to tenure-track at the end of the 2009-2010 academic year. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching, to maintain an active research program with undergraduates, and to be a full member of the Sweet Briar College community. Primary teaching responsibility will be in physical chemistry with additional contributions at the introductory and advanced levels. Applicants must have a PhD in physical chemistry or related area and should have a strong record of research. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Students in the Chemistry Department are taught through an intensive hands-on curriculum that promotes a research-oriented approach to teaching science. Senior research is required of all students, and many choose to complete a three-semester research thesis. Approximately 90% of our chemistry graduates pursue the PhD or advanced professional degrees.
